Richard Smyth (1838-1914) was born in Dublin, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1863 and was known in Salt Lake City as "Smyth the Hatter." He returned to Ireland on two missions. In 1890 he established a hatter company. A number of Smyth's poems appeared in the Millennial Star, the voice of the Church in Britain. His hymn "Israel, Israel, God Is Calling" is included on this website.
